Accelerating the Rollout of COVID-19 Rapid Tests with a Large-Scale Ecommerce Platform
The Context and Impact
I partnered with a leading MedTech company during the peak of Covid to build their first B2C ecommerce platform for the roll-out of their at-home Covid test kits. I designed, built and launched 2 accessible, intuitive, and seamless consumer-facing websites (a marketing site to generate foot traffic as we awaited FDA approvals and an e-commerce site) within a span of 5 months.
As a result, we opened up a multi-year digital transformation with the client in other areas of their business. We have seen a revenue upside of $750M across the omni-channel products and transformational improvement in customer satisfaction (NPS) and customer loyalty.
My Role
As the Product Design Lead, I defined the MVP and future-state vision with C-Suites, coached and mentored my client counterparts and junior designers, designed hi-fidelity wireframes, worked closely with developers to Design QA, conducted qualitative and quantitative user feedback, and launched the product.
I designed ~100+ desktop and mobile wireframes, developed a mobile-responsive design system, and collaborated closely with engineers and users to refine, test, and launch the product. ]
The Websites
This work was a massive undertaking due to the urgency to get the Covid test kits as quickly and safely out to the public during the height of the pandemic. Additionally, the parent company was undergoing a rebranding that required lots of negotiation between the design and tech teams to discuss tech debt and trade-offs while building at breakneck speed.
As a solve, we developed a fully responsive design system from scratch, leveraging tokens (before Figma tokens were a thing!) to reduce design and development re-work during the rebrand. The design system was built for scalability across the the digital websites and the physical packaging of the covid tests.
I launched 2 e-commerce sites and worked with the marketing team to develop the messaging for the sites and the physical covid kits
